My Views on the San Antonio Comedy Scene and Success

Updated: Nov 10, 2019

First, I would like to say I didn't come from money, I learned at an early age if I wanted something, I had to work for it. I am where I am today because I've listened, I've observed, and I have not been scared to give a helping hand. I've asked questions even when I thought I knew it all.

I'm nice, until I have to be mean, and my intentions are the best for everyone. However, I've learned not to have the same expectations for others. Throughout my journey to get to my career, and to this day, I've had people that have loved me, and people that have hated me. That is something you sign up for when you are in a position like mine. For years, I let those people get to me, tried to prove my worth to people that aren't even in my life anymore. I lost sleep over it and I was always so stressed. Hell, I went from everyone loving me before I became a boss to being the most hated person in my last company, because of having to become a BOSS and implement rules.

Every experience can be a good experience as long as you learn from it, and that is where you/ we, gain. All of those people did me a favor, they made me work harder for success. When I started living by the concept of fighting WITH my success and not my words, I moved mountains. I've realized we are all here to learn, and I've learned to have sympathy for those people that can be negative and pray for the best in them. I have no time for bad energy as it's just an added obstacle to my journey. If someone doesn't stand up and change things, then the cycle of negativity never ends. I'm here to say as a Comedy Club Owner that has 20 years in the bar business, 10 years running the number one bar of a multi-million dollar chain, 5 years as a regional manager traveling to multiple multi-million dollar bars and increasing revenues to currently opening a Comedy Club Bar in downtown San Antonio and increasing profit everyday, I will say this, I will never EVER shut down anyone's dreams. I believe with passion and persistence we can do wonders. Is that passion enough to NEVER give up? Only you know that answer. I have met some amazing talented people that have put in the work, and I have met some amazing talented people I feel like can make it, if they don't give up. See aside from talent, how long are you willing to wait for your dream to come true, when the competition is enormous? I waited 3 years.

With all of that being said, I don't care to hear about negativity in the comedy scene. Sure, have I been bashed on FB? Of course, but when people tell me about it, I say that's none of my business, because I know who I am, and I've worked my butt off to make any decision in my comedy or bar for the success of my club. With that being said there is always someone else willing to do the job, and I love working with hungry comics....I'm mean not literally but.... maybe sometimes, comedy doesn't pay much. Lol But all jokes aside,my success came from creativity, persistence and doing things different. I will also always implement those things to Jokesters 22 in order to give everyone the opportunities they deserve.
